Employees should contact their department's Human Resources partner (see list following Process for Reporting Vaccination Status). Students who wish to apply for a medical exemption may contact the Schacht Center by emailing or by calling 41 to request an exemption form. The question is how central the belief is to the individual’s religious identity. We recognize that some of you may seek a religious or medical exemption to the vaccination requirement. Further, in Prince v President, Cape Law Society, and Others 2002 (2) SA 794 (CC) the Court confirmed that it should not be concerned with questions of whether, as a matter of religious doctrine, a particular practice is central to the religion. To monitor compliance with this requirement, and following the model of other campuses, we require that students and employees upload their completed vaccination card, after their final dose, to the Schacht Center Portal using the instructions below. As is our practice with other vaccinations, exemptions for medical and religious reasons will be considered on a case by case basis. ![]() This decision enables Smith to provide additional protection for everyone in our community as we resume more customary operations later this summer.
